PLYMOUTH COUNTRY COURTHOUSES
Plymouth County, MA

Gienapp Design is currently performing a planning study for the Plymouth County Probate and Family Court. The Court currently occupies one floor of the Registry of Deeds building and has approximately 8,000 sf, less than one-half of the current space needs. The existing Registry of Deeds building is across the street from the historical Superior Court building on Court Street, scheduled to be vacated in late 2004 when a new comprehensive judicial center is completed on the outer edge of Plymouth.
The primary focus of our study is to determine if the Probate and Family Court should be expanded in the existing Registry building or whether the Court should be relocated to the Superior Court building; requiring a major renovation and partial demolition of the existing historical building.
Our study has included caseload history and projections staffing plans, planning and architectural design studies for the Probate and Family Court and the potential re-use of both buildings.
