BOXFORD TOWN LIBRARIES
Boxford, MA

For the Town of Boxford, Gienapp Design performed a comprehensive library facilities study. The core of our study was to determine whether the long term (20 year) Master Plan for the town libraries would be for one or more libraries. While there was an obvious rationale for one library, there has been two libraries in town for more than 100 years and there was reluctance by town residents to give up either branch. Meanwhile, the Town is in the process of developing a new town center site with an expanded Police Station under construction and a new town hall in planning. The Master Plan for the new site has identified a third potential library site.

Our study included programming the library needs as well as investigation of the existing buildings and sites. The primary challenge was generating and evaluating the several planning options for libraries on one or more sites. For each option we developed a preliminary program, site feasibility design study and cost estimate. Our study is basis on which the Town will determine the location for a new or expanded library, and whether any existing facilities will be closed.
