J.V. FLETCHER LIBRARY
Westford, MA

Gienapp Design recently completed a detailed space utilization study for Westford's public library. The library was expanded in 1988 but is already overcrowded due to the recent extraordinary growth of Westford and the popularity of the library. Our study examined alternative Planning Options to improve the efficiency of the existing library.

Our services included existing conditions assessment, library programming, planning and design. The study provided the Trustees and Staff with several findings, recommendations and documents on which to proceed including:

  • Space program for the next 10 years
  • Collection guidelines for the next 10 years by discipline
  • Recommended reorganization of the collection
  • Floor plans and furniture layouts for the Preferred Option
  • Recommended architectural improvements
  • Cost Estimate for renovations
  • Project Budget

For this project, like all of our library planning and design projects, we teamed our architectural expertise with a consulting Library Programmer to ensure the architectural and engineering solutions address the library's operational needs. The study has provided the library and Town with a clear understanding of the alternatives available and the total estimated cost to implement the changes.
